On January, 29, in a room of the State TV and Broadcast Company of “Nizhny Novgorod” there were a unusual and extremely colorful festive event called “The Peculiarities of Celebration of a National New Year.” Such event was in our city for the first time. The event was conducted on the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Politics of the Nizhny Novgorod region. By having anticipated I will say that the first practice was successful. In the festival there took part representatives of 14 national associations: Tartar, Ukrainians, Jews, Armenians, Koreans, Byelorussians, Chuvash, Mari, Azerbaijanians, Turkmen, Tajik, Ossetin, Gypsy, Mordvinians and other peoples living in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Every national group had its own table, list of participants, creative group.
The purpose of this event is presentation of national traditions and cultural peculiarities of celebration of a national New Year by peoples living in our region.
The Jewish Community was presented by the Jewish National and Cultural Autonomy, by young persons from the youth club and also by the ensemble of “Erev Tov”. Our table was laid in the Jewish manner according to the holiday of Rosh Hashanah. I would like to mention that everything had helped to prepare: the Rabbi of Shimon Bergman had given Kosher wine and attribute things; Marina Pashton had baked a honey cake etc. The program stipulated an interview with a representative of every community, and also appearance of creative groups. I told of peculiarities of the Jewish New Year’s Eve party, Rosh Hashanah. For seven minutes a composition of Jewish melodies was played by the ensemble of “Erev Tov”. The musicians had a cordial reception of the presenting persons.
All national groups were very nice and colorful. Our representatives liked appearances of the Koreans, the Tartar, and the kid dance group of the Byelorussian Diaspora. Generally it is difficult to say who was better: All appearances were good.
At the festival there presented members of the government of the region: the minister of internal politics of Alexander Tsapin and the minister of culture of Mikhail Groshev.
