Holiday of Light

On December 26 in life of the Nizhny Novgorod Jewish community there was a joyful event. It was celebration of the light holiday of Chanukah and timed to it handing the annual prize of “Person of the Year”.

The hall of the Opera and Ballet House was full of guests! Here is a large family where there reigns atmosphere of warmness and joy. It is surely obvious! Chanukah of course is one of the most favorite Jewish holidays!

For Chanukah, it is usual to give kids gifts. This time a gift was grandiose! The holiday of Light was timed to an anniversary of the only Jewish school in Nizhny Novgorod of “Or Avner”! The school is ten!

At first there sounded warm words of congratulations by the city manager of Nizhny Novgorod of Oleg Sorokin and his deputy of Dmitry Birman.

The Rabbi of Shimon Bergman as always told the community a wise parable having congratulated all with the holiday of Chanukah, and after that there spoke Eduard M. Chaprak, the president of the community.

Then there were handing the prizes “Person of the Year” which had been timed to the anniversary of the school of “Or Avner”. It is already giving kids for 10 years the wisdom of knowledge and the light of the doctrine of the Torah. It is the main reason of that all nominations were dedicated to people who not only had been founders of the community but nowadays make an invaluable contribution in its development too.

The first mistress of the school of “Or Avner” Galina I. Zelionaia (“At the Source”), the actual mistress of the school Marina L. Pashton (“School Unconvential Ideas”), Marina P. Podgaits (“Not indifferent Heart”), Olga B. Pashton (“Succession”), and the sponsor of the school of Israel Bareli (“Patron of the Year”) got the prize of “Person of the Year”. There gave enormous joy all present people the student of the eighth grade of Mark Tarasov. For his merits in study, it was offered for giving the special price in the nomination of (“Young Talent”). Well done, keep it up!

For gratitude to the school and people, helping it to exist, the duet of a student of the school of Mendel Bergman and its final-year student of Kirill Garakhin sang the song of “Ve’zakeini”. A chorus of student led by tactful Svetlana V. Deich rejoiced the spectators by the song of “Small Country” in which the kids had sung of his loved school with their teachers and old boys and girls. Such final of the festival provoked tears on eyes of many people!

And in the second part the merit composer of the RF of Alexander Zhurbin rejoiced us by singing songs for performances and films. All love these songs!

Chanukah this year was very unforgettable!
