This summer Nizhny Novgorod Jewish youth visited Israel under the free program of “Taglit-Birthright”.
Having assembled at the walls of the Nizhny Novgorod synagogue, we could not imagine what adventures are in store for us for the next ten days. There were from Nizhny Novgorod ten of us, all we were from 18 to 26, students or alumni. In Moscow, we joined our group and flew by a comfortable liner to our historical motherland. There they met us and we went to a splendid hotel in the marvelous city and port of Haifa. That night they told us many interested stories of Jewry, let into the sacrament of Shabbat and introduced to beauty of the Holy Land of Israel.
All the 10 days of our journey flew like one instant. Now when we are glancing at pass days we remember a number of colorful elements. We visited the Museum of Diaspora in Tel-Aviv, Golan Heights, and the Dead Sea. We saw the dawn on the Masada, floated boats along the river of Jordan, passed the night in a very real Bedouin tent, rode camels, wept in the Yad Vashem, talked with a real deputy of the Knesset, walked about the old part of Jerusalem, prayed at the Kotel... Nevertheless, the most principle is that we did all it together: we were from Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Ufa, St.-Petersburg, Izhevsk, Ulyanovsk, Kostroma and surely Nizhny Novgorod!
I would like to thank all organizers of the travel and first of all the Nizhny Novgorod community very much. It was the unforgettable ten days in the motherland of our ancestors.
