Milya (Erachmiel) G. Zhebrak

He was born in 1921 in the shtetl of Lodyzhin of the Vinnitsa region, the Ukraine... His family was religious, there were growing three sons, Milya was oldest. In 1932, it removed to Tashkent. Short after his Mum got sick and died. They lived with difficulty. Milya began to work early. Ten days before the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, they called him to the colors and he was at war from the beginning to the end of the war in an infantry platoon of the Southwestern, Noth Caucausian and the 3rd Ukrainian fronts. They wounded him.

After the end of the Great Patriotic War, he was in the Soviet Army to 1949 and liberated the Western Ukraine from soldiers of Stepan Bandera. After his demobilization, he returned to Tashkent, and then he came to his uncle to Gorky and stayed here to live and work. In 1950, he married. He worked at a model factory and at the footwear factory of “Krasny Obuvshchik”. He was an activist of the Jewish religious community. He visited the minyan of Ioffe at Mayakovsky Street. He was a constant member of the minyan. In 2010, he got the title of “Person of the Year” in the nomination of “Honorary Parishioner”. In spite of four heart attacks and sore legs he was regularly visiting the synagogue to the very his death. He did not pass away without leaving a trace. There remained his wife, kids, grandkids… The memory of M.G. Zhebrak will leave in minds of his relatives and friends forever.
