Calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod Jewish Community for 5772 (2011 - 2012)

Every year the Jewish Community of Nizhny Novgorod publishes a calendar special for our city. In the calendar there are dates of Jewish holidays and time of burning of Shabbat and holiday candles for Nizhny Novgorod; there are also congratulations with Jewish New Year from the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the mayor of the city. We dedicated the calendar to memory of outstanding Jews of Nizhny Novgorod who are already not with us and who in the hard time were supporting our culture and traditions, observing commandments and doing prayers. You may acquire a calendar in the synagogue. Parishioners who will take part in prayers of the month of Tishrei will get a calendar free.

One Should Study Merry!

Today, on September 1, the school of “Or Avner” opened its doors for its students again. However, it was an unusual beginning of the school year, which for sure will stick in their memory for a long time! They did not conduct the ceremonial line in the school as usual but… do you suppose where? Not for you will guess!

Yes, yes, it was on the area of the Nizhny Novgorod circus! There were fine kids, well-dressed teachers, and excited parents! As usual, especial emotions there provoked our first-graders who there were holding by their hands our final-year students.

The kids were reciting poems, singing songs, speaking warm words to their teachers.

There was a guest in our festival too: It was the Rabbi of Nizhny Novgorod region of Shimon Bergman.

Traditional at the ceremonial line in honor of the Day of knowledge there sounded a “voice” of a shofar because the beginning of the school year coincides with the beginning of the month of Elul, which is the threshold of Rosh Hashanah.

Well, after that there rang the first bell in this school year!
